1 Centenary Square is the cornerstone of the flagship Arena Central regeneration scheme in the heart of Birmingham.

The project is a stunning new office development which is housing the headquarters for HSBC’s domestic banking operations within the UK. In excess 210,000 sqft of Category A office space is spread across 11 storeys, accommodating over 2,500 people.

A three-storey basement car park services the building, which required significant engineering solutions to ensure there was no impact on the nearby Monument Lane train tunnel.

The external façade, which overlooks Centenary Square, is a structural steel frame system with glass reinforced concrete cladding panels in an intricate basketweave arrangement, giving the building its unique appearance.

As well as constructing the building, Galliford Try has additionally provided the landscaping and public realms works to create a new ‘urban meadow’ at Bank Court and was also awarded the contract by HSBC to complete the full fit-out of the building to the their exacting standards.

1 Centenary Square became the first building in Birmingham to achieve the LEED Gold office standard, an American sustainability certification scheme similar to the BREEAM.
