The Teaching and Learning Centre at Durham University, built by Galliford Try, has won a further award for its architectural excellence, having been named as one of the Regional winners for the North East RIBA awards.
The £40m scheme, which had previously been lauded as a Highly Commended project at the 2021 Civic Trust awards, was designed by Faulkner Brown, with Space Architects involved in the construction phase. It was one of four winners in the North East region, with all successful entries now going forward for a potential National RIBA award and ultimately the Stirling Prize.
Situated within a conservation area and part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, the building possesses a spectacular asymmetric pyramidal design roof among its notable features, and houses lecture theatres, teaching rooms, and an education laboratory.
