Galliford Try Asset Intelligence supported The Dianna Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, which serves c100,000 inpatients per year, with an urgent requirement for detailed design, provision, and remediation of extant fire alarm systems.

Operating in a highly dynamic and extremely sensitive hospital environment during COVID-19, our project teams implemented a bespoke and highly flexible system of work to ensure that the impact on vulnerable inpatients was kept to a minimum, while still maintaining the highest operational standards.

Despite imposed time constraints and adverse circumstances, we were able to deliver the ‘Phase 1’ installation and integration within a 7-week period. Phase 1 comprised the installation of 3,200 fire devices, 27.5km of cable and the fitment of 17km of cable containment across the hospital. We were also responsible for erecting all power supplies, ancillary services; and for integration across existing ancillaries, building works and firestopping as necessary.

Later phases saw the completion of the whole hospital fire system upgrade, enabling the estate to function in a compliant, end user focused manner. Testament to our project management expertise and skillful operations teams, fire safety systems were successfully upgraded throughout the hospital. The Dianna Princess of Wales Hospital now has a reliable and effective response to fire activation from both a mechanistic and personnel perspective.

This project was finalist for ‘Passive Fire Project of the Year’ at the Security & Fire Excellence Awards in November 2022.
