On World Menopause Day, Galliford Try is proud to launch its first ever Menopause Policy in support of providing a more inclusive working environment.

The Group’s new Menopause Policy recognises the taboo surrounding menopause, which can prevent individuals from accessing the support they need and encourages open conversation through education for all. Through the policy, the Group commits to providing line managers with the information and confidence they need to support members of their teams, and to outline sources of further help.

It highlights adjustments which can be made at work to help manage menopausal symptoms such as providing more breaks, supporting flexible working hours or arrangements to help manage symptoms, enabling temperature control, providing access to a rest room, and offering an Employee Assistance Programme and other sources of support.

As part of the action plan around the new policy, the Group has signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge for employers who commit to actively supporting and informing employees affected by the menopause.

Vikki Skene, HR Director and Executive Board member of Galliford Try, said: “Menopause is a natural event and transition that women experience and symptoms can have a significant impact on their personal lives, work lives and self-esteem.

“As a people-orientated employer, we recognise that individuals need different levels of support and our policy aims to provide practical assistance to individuals going through menopause and ensure they feel comfortable discussing their symptoms and needs, as well as equipping managers with the knowledge and resources to provide support for their teams. We want to ensure our industry is as inclusive as it can be and we are committed to developing our support and approach over the coming months.”

The Group has already provided a series of webinars covering male and female health, including menopause as part of its long-running Be Well programme.
